The event, held at the Hotel Royal, Torino, was well-attended by Edo sons and daughters, Nigerian community leaders, students, and some professionals from across northern Italy.

The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the ex-governor and his Edo State citizens abroad, while addressing concerns related to infrastructure, electricity, agriculture, migration, and governance.

Warm Reception by the Nigerian Community

Governor Obaseki was warmly received by members of the Edo and Nigerian communities, led by Mr Steve Aneto, President of the Edo Community in Torino, and Mr Ken, President of the Nigerian Community in Torino.

Also in attendance were Mr Lucky Oseye, Mrs Joy Oseye, and other executive members of the community, who expressed appreciation for the governor’s humility and commitment to engaging directly with Edo indigenes abroad.

The ceremony began with the Nigerian national anthem, followed by a praise performance by members of the Edo state, showcasing their appreciation.

Governor Obaseki’s Address

In his opening remarks, Ex-Governor Obaseki thanked the Nigerian community for their hospitality and acknowledged the role of the diaspora in Edo’s development.

He spoke extensively about his administration’s efforts to transform Edo State through infrastructure renewal, improved education, youth empowerment, and agricultural development.

“Our mission is to make Edo a state where people can live, work, and prosper,” he said.
“We where focusing on sustainable development that provides opportunities for our youths .”

Question and Answer Session

During the interactive session, attendees asked a wide range of questions touching on governance, infrastructure, electricity, agriculture, and the recent controversy surrounding the Oba of Benin.

On Infrastructure

Question: “Your Excellency, what efforts did your government make to improve roads and public infrastructure across the state?”

Answer:
Governor Obaseki explained that his administration has embarked on massive infrastructure projects across the three senatorial districts, using transparent project tracking systems to ensure accountability and quality delivery.

“Our goal was to  connect rural communities to markets and make Edo a logistics hub in southern Nigeria,” he said.

On Electricity

Question: “Electricity is still a challenge in Edo. What steps did you take to improve the power supply?”

Answer:
He highlighted the Ossiomo Power Project, which now provides stable power to government institutions, hospitals, and parts of Benin City, with plans to expand to other parts of the state.
He emphasised that reliable electricity remains central to his government’s industrialisation drive.

On Agriculture

Question: “Agriculture used to be a strong base of Edo’s economy. How did you manage it during your?”

Answer:
Governor Obaseki said the Edo Agripreneur Programme and partnerships with local and international investors have revitalised the sector, supporting thousands of farmers with access to land, training, and finance.

“We’re not just promoting farming,” he said. “We’re promoting agribusiness — farming as a profitable, modern enterprise.”

On Relations with the Oba of Benin

Question: “Your Excellency, there have been reports labelling you as an enemy of the Oba of Benin. Could you clarify this issue?”

Answer:
Governor Obaseki firmly dismissed such claims, stating that he has deep respect for the Benin Royal Palace and His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin.
He emphasized that the monarchy is a revered cultural institution that should be kept above political manipulation.

“I am not an enemy of our Oba,” he said. “The palace and the royal family represent our history and identity. However, I must make it clear — the traditional institution should never be used as a political tool. The royal institution belongs to all Edo people and should remain neutral and respected.”

The audience applauded his clarity and maturity in addressing the matter, noting that his statement helped to dispel widespread misconceptions.

On Diaspora Investment

Question: “How did Edo indigenes abroad invest in the state with ease?”

Answer:
Governor Obaseki reaffirmed his administration’s openness to diaspora investors through the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO) and Diaspora Affairs Office, both designed to simplify processes and ensure transparency.
He encouraged skilled Nigerians in Italy to explore opportunities in ICT, real estate, agriculture, and renewable energy.

Closing Remarks

Mr Ken, President of the Nigerian Community, also commended the governor’s commitment to inclusiveness and dialogue, describing the visit as “historic and inspiring.”

Other executive members, including Mr Lucky Oseye, Mrs Joy Oseye, and several others, presented tokens of appreciation to the governor and his delegation.

The event concluded with photographs, networking, and performances celebrating unity.
