In a significant development for the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to commence local production of military equipment. This decision comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria Bill into law. Speaking at a Ministerial Sectorial Update in Abuja, Minister Badaru highlighted the progress made in the fight against terrorism under the Tinubu administration. He stated that the military, under the close synergy among the Service Chiefs, has achieved significant milestones in the past year. Over 9,300 insurgents have been killed, 7,000 others arrested, and 4,641 kidnapped victims rescued. Additionally, 4,882 assorted weapons and 83,900 assorted ammunition have been recovered.

Minister Badaru emphasized the importance of the collaborative efforts among the Service Chiefs and other security agencies in achieving these successes. He commended the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff for their joint efforts, which have led to increased productivity and efficiency in military operations. The Minister also acknowledged the close collaboration with the office of the National Security Adviser, the police, and the NSCDC.

Furthermore, Minister Badaru highlighted the government’s commitment to ending insecurity in the country. He mentioned that President Tinubu has consistently expressed his desire to see an end to the ongoing attacks. The military is deploying technology to track and intercept attackers, particularly in areas with forests where attacks often occur. The government is also focused on increasing manpower by recruiting more personnel into the military and deploying advanced technology to combat insurgency effectively.

In addition to the fight against terrorism, the government is actively addressing oil theft in the Niger Delta region. Operation against oil theft has resulted in the arrest of 1,437 suspects and the neutralization of 363 individuals involved in illegal activities. The government has also destroyed numerous illegal refineries, dug pits, boats, and storage tanks, leading to a significant reduction in illegal refineries.Federal Government Set to Boost Local Production of Military Weapons

The Federal Government’s commitment to boosting local production of military weapons reflects its determination to enhance national security and reduce dependence on external sources. This initiative will contribute to the development of the country’s defense industry and strengthen its capacity to address security challenges effectively.

As the government continues its efforts to improve security and combat insurgency, it urges the public to support these endeavors and provide any relevant information that can assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
