Confirming the incident, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, stated that the suspects were arrested for conspiracy and cultism. The Anti-kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the command, while on patrol, apprehended the suspects at the Ramat Park in Benin.

During interrogation, it was discovered that all the suspects were members of the Eiye Confraternity. Further investigation revealed that four of the suspects, Emeka Eke, Chizoba Okolie, Samson Ochonobor, and Friday Abgebayo, were assaulting Julius Eguasa for failing to attend their meetings and pay monthly dues to the confraternity.

Nwanbuzor emphasized that the police are conducting a thorough investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court accordingly. The arrested individuals are currently assisting the police with their inquiries.

This incident sheds light on the persistent issue of cultism in the region and the need for concerted efforts to address the root causes of such activities. Cultism poses a threat to the security and well-being of communities, and it is crucial for law enforcement agencies and community leaders to work together to combat this menace.

The Edo State Police Command’s swift action in apprehending these suspects is commendable and sends a strong message that criminal activities will not be tolerated. It is hoped that the legal process will provide justice and serve as a deterrent to others involved in cult-related activities.
