For 2027 senate race, 123 women join 1,303 pipo wey dey fight for Nigeria 109 senate seats.

For di 2027 general election, 123 women na among di 1,303 candidates wey don qualify for Nigeria 109 senate seats, na wetin di final candidate list wey Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) release.

Dis number mean say women na like 9. 4 per cent na di candidates wey dey run for senate, and 1,180 na men dem be. Di candidates dem from 22 political parties for all Nigeria 36 states plus di Federal Capital Territory.

Some of di notable women wey dey contest include Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, wey dey seek another term for Kogi Central under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Senator Ireti Kingibe, wey dey contest for Federal Capital Territory seat under African Democratic Congress (ADC); former senator Nkechi Nwaogu, wey dey contest Abia Central under Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC); and former Lagos Deputy Governor Idiat Oluranti Adebule, wey dey contest Lagos West under All Progressives Congress (APC).

Di number of female candidates no be di same for all states. Akwa Ibom get di highest number with 10 women, while Rivers, Kwara and Osun each get seven. Anambra, Enugu and Bayelsa each get six female candidates. But Jigawa, Nasarawa, Niger and Yobe no get any female candidate for their Senate districts, according to di final list.

Di number show say wimen participation for di 2027 Senate election don spread across different political parties and regions, even though wimen still make up small part of di people wey dey seek Senate seats.

Di 2027 election go determine who go enter di next National Assembly, including di new Senate. As political activities dey increase before di election, di final candidate list don give clearer picture of di people wey dey seek to represent different senatorial districts for Nigeria.
