“Gombe Teaching Hospital Appeals for Public Assistance to Identify Family of Unclaimed Hit and Run Victim”

GOMBE, Nigeria  The Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe (FTHG), has issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying and locating the relatives of an unidentified hit and run victim whose body remains unclaimed at the hospital’s mortuary.

According to information released by the hospital, the deceased was reportedly involved in a road traffic accident and was brought to the medical facility for treatment. Despite efforts by hospital authorities and relevant agencies to trace family members, no relatives or acquaintances have come forward to claim the body.

Hospital officials disclosed that the deceased bears distinctive tribal marks that could help members of the public identify him. The institution has therefore called on residents, community leaders, traditional authorities, and anyone with relevant information to assist in locating the victim’s family.

The appeal underscores a recurring challenge faced by healthcare facilities across Nigeria, where unidentified accident victims are sometimes left unclaimed due to a lack of identification documents, communication barriers, or difficulties in tracing next of kin. Medical and emergency response experts have repeatedly emphasized the importance of carrying valid identification and ensuring emergency contact details are readily available to aid notification efforts during emergencies.

Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, urged anyone who may recognize the description of the deceased or possess information that could assist in identifying him to contact the hospital immediately. Authorities say prompt identification will enable the family to be notified and facilitate appropriate burial arrangements.

The hospital reiterated its commitment to handling the matter with dignity and respect while seeking public cooperation in bringing closure to the victim’s loved ones.
