Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has urged Corps Members serving in the state to be security conscious at all times as security is every one’s business.

The governor made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation permanent camp, Okada.

According to the governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon Zubairu Dada Abubakar the Corps members should avoid acts that can endanger their lives.

“My dear Corps members, as you proceed to your places of primary assignments, I urge you to be security conscious at all times, as security is every one’s business. You should avoid acts that can endanger your lives such as staying out late, attending night parties, visitation to dangerous places and acceptance of car ride and gifts from strangers.

“On our part as a government, we committed to making adequate provisions for your security and general welfare. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders with a view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year.

“At this juncture, I would like to warn you against unauthorized journeys. If permitted to travel, you must avoid night trips, as travelling at night will not only increase the risk of accident, but also make rescue difficult. Furthermore, you should board vehicles only at approved motor parks so as to avoid falling into the hands of criminals,” he added.

The governor said the Corps Members should sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience which was imbibed during the orientation course, adding that, “ It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Edo people by contributing towards the progress and development of our dear state.”

The state Coordinator NYSC, Edo State Malam Sulaiman Andy Ibrahim disclosed that the three weeks orientation exercise has not only instilled in the Corps Members the core values of the NYSC Scheme, but has also inculcated the readiness to embark on developmental projects that will help to uplift the nation and Edo State in particular.

“I therefore implore everyone of you to endeavor to make judicious use of this once in a lifetime opportunity to develop yourselves, especially by leveraging of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) post camp training, towards equipping yourselves with the right skill set needed to thrive in the global economy, whilst also contributing towards the upliftment of your host communities, by embarking on impactful community development service (CDS) projects.

“As good ambassadors of your families and the NYSC scheme, you must continue to exhibit qualities expected of a leader. You must remain law abiding, shun fraud and corruption, truancy and any such act of indiscipline capable of jeopardizing your career. Ensure to peruse the NYSC bye laws and every other publication issued to you during the orientation exercise, in order to be properly guided towards having a smooth and most rewarding service year,” he noted.

The NYSC State director, on behalf  of the  Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, management and staff and entire Corps Members in Edo State expressed appreciation to the Edo State Governor for the  support accorded the scheme in the provision of the welfare needs of Corps Members in the state particularly the ongoing construction of the permanent  orientation camp  and the provision of 18 luxurious buses for the conveyance of Corps Members to their various places of primary assignment.

According to him, “This uncommon gesture is a demonstration of the governors confidence in the youths  of this nation.”
