Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to intensifying the fight against cultism, kidnapping, and all forms of criminal activity across the state.
Speaking after a high-level security meeting held behind closed doors at the Government House in Benin City on Wednesday evening, the Governor emphasized the strategic importance of the gathering in reinforcing the state’s security architecture.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Executive Member of the Edo State Special Security Squad, Comrade Ameloemen Idemudia Noah; as well as commanders and operatives from the security squad and other key stakeholders.
Governor Okpebholo described the meeting as productive and focused, revealing that critical strategies were mapped out to sustain and escalate the crackdown on criminal elements threatening the peace of the state.
“We had a very useful meeting focused on the fight against cultism and kidnapping. We want to ensure Edo State is safe for all of us and create an enabling environment for a strong economy. That is the essence of today’s meeting,” he said.
Since the inauguration of the Edo State Special Security Squad, there has been a noticeable reduction in violent crimes. The multi-agency team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, hunters, vigilante groups, repentant cultists, and other stakeholders has carried out several successful raids, leading to the arrest of cult leaders and criminal suspects.
Hotspot areas across the state, particularly in Benin City, have witnessed a renewed sense of calm as the security squad continues its aggressive operations to restore law and order.
Governor Okpebholo’s stance reaffirms his administration’s resolve to make Edo State a haven for law-abiding citizens and a no-go zone for criminal elements.
