In a significant move to improve electricity supply and boost economic activities in Edo Central, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has delivered on his campaign promise with the completion of a 2.5MVA injection sub-station in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area.
Governor Okpebholo, who inspected the newly completed project alongside top government officials, described the milestone as a transformative step for the benefiting communities. He noted that the project signals a new era of development for areas that have long suffered neglect.
“I am delighted to bring this development to the people of these communities. It marks a new chapter, as the people are now feeling the presence of government in ways they haven’t in years,” the governor stated. He further emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring residents of more infrastructural projects across the state.
According to Governor Okpebholo, the injection sub-station is expected to enhance power distribution and drive economic growth by ensuring consistent electricity supply, which will enable small and medium-scale enterprises to thrive.
Engr. Mokwenye Jidenmah, Business Head of Technical Operations at the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), commended the state government’s effort. He confirmed that the 2.5MVA sub-station is designed to serve over nine transformers, converting the 33KVA line to 11KVA. He assured that power supply to Udomi and adjoining communities would commence immediately.
“This project will energize over six communities, including Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda, all within Uwessan,” Engr. Jidenmah added.
In addition to the power project, Governor Okpebholo also inspected the ongoing construction of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology in Udomi. He acknowledged the Edo State House of Assembly for their prompt passage of the bill establishing the institution, which he has since signed into law.
“I appreciate the House of Assembly for their unwavering support. Thanks to their efforts, this vital project is now underway, and Edo people can expect more impactful initiatives from this administration,” the governor said.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to prioritize people-centered projects and bring governance closer to the grassroots.
