His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received with deep shock and sadness the news of the passing of a dedicated and highly respected journalist, Mr Adibe Emenyonu, who, until his death, served as the Edo State Correspondent for ThisDay Newspaper in Benin City.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo described the death of Emenyonu as an immense loss, not only to his immediate family and media organisation but also to the entire Edo State media community and the state at large.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of a valued member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Mr. Adibe Emenyonu,” the Governor stated. “This is a truly painful moment for all of us. He was known for his professionalism, thoroughness, and dedication to duty. His contributions toward holding government accountable and informing the public were invaluable.”
Governor Okpebholo extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the management and staff of ThisDay Newspaper, and the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“In this moment of grief, we are united in celebrating a life well spent in the service of truth and society. The late Adibe Emenyonu will be remembered for his commitment to ethical journalism, his integrity, and his passion for the profession,” he added.
The Governor prayed that God grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and give his family, friends, and colleagues the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
