The member representing Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace and national unity during a two-day Legislative Roundtable Conference held at Hotel Continental, Abuja.
The conference, themed “Peacebuilding and National Cohesion,” brought together lawmakers, faith-based leaders, and civil society actors to chart a legislative path toward strengthening unity across Nigeria’s diverse communities.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Osawaru—who also chairs the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa—emphasized the importance of fostering mutual respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. He called for collective action against hate speech, online threats, and other divisive elements that endanger societal harmony.
The lawmaker advocated for strategic collaborations, both within and beyond Nigeria’s borders, to promote sustainable peace. His remarks resonated with contributions from major religious and civic bodies, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), and the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), all of whom echoed the urgent need for tolerance and joint efforts in nation-building.
The Legislative Roundtable is seen as a proactive step by the 10th House of Representatives in advancing peace through dialogue, interfaith cooperation, and legislative action. Hon. Osawaru’s presence and contributions underscored his unwavering commitment to building bridges among Nigeria’s people and working toward a more united and stable nation.
