Meanwhile, in northern Italy, ITB Auto has announced plans to revive an idle auto components factory in Grugliasco, Turin, with a proposed €100 million investment. The facility, previously operated by Lear Corporation, will be converted into a production hub for Desner-brand electric minicars, with a target of 20,000 vehicles annually starting in 2026.
The initiative could see between 200 and 250 of the current 376 workers rehired, easing concerns about mass layoffs after years of industrial decline. Italy’s Industry Ministry brokered crisis talks to secure the deal, describing it as a crucial step to protect jobs and restore Turin’s status as an automotive hub.
Trade unions have cautiously welcomed the plan but remain concerned about the fate of workers who may not be rehired and are seeking guarantees on ITB Auto’s financial stability. Follow-up negotiations are scheduled for October.
