Jamal Musiala’s Recent Collapses Linked to Medication Adjustment for Neurological Condition  Kompany.

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has revealed that Jamal Musiala’s recent on field collapses were linked to an adjustment in medication being used to manage the midfielder’s neurological condition.

The 23 year old Germany international collapsed during two Bayern Munich friendly matches within four days, first against RB Leipzig and later against Heidenheim. The incidents prompted concern among supporters, but Musiala subsequently disclosed that he had been diagnosed with brief, temporary and treatable neurological episodes.

Kompany said on Friday that the latest incidents were associated with changes to Musiala’s treatment rather than a new deterioration in his condition. According to Reuters, the Bayern coach explained that the medication adjustment had produced side effects while Musiala’s body adapted to the new treatment.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl also confirmed that the club had been aware of Musiala’s condition since last season and had been supporting him with specialist medical care. The club has maintained a measured approach to the situation, while allowing the player time to adjust to his treatment.

Musiala had earlier reassured fans through a public statement, saying that he was receiving appropriate medical care and that specialists had cleared him to continue playing. He described the episodes as part of his current daily life and said there was no additional health risk associated with the condition, while asking for understanding and privacy.

The latest health concerns emerged during Bayern’s pre season preparations. Musiala collapsed during a 3–1 victory over RB Leipzig before experiencing another episode during Bayern’s 4–2 friendly win against Heidenheim. The second incident occurred only minutes after he entered the match as a substitute.

Musiala’s disclosure has also prompted wider discussion about neurological disorders in professional sport. Medical reports describe absence seizures as brief episodes involving impaired awareness that can be managed through appropriate treatment and specialist monitoring. However, the precise medical details of Musiala’s condition remain private, and the player has not publicly disclosed a more detailed diagnosis beyond his description of temporary neurological episodes.

The German international is also returning from a difficult period in his career. He spent several months recovering from a serious ankle injury suffered during Bayern’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign before returning to competitive football in January 2026. He subsequently represented Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With Bayern preparing for the new Bundesliga season, the club is taking a cautious approach to Musiala’s return. Reuters reports that he will miss the German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund as he continues adjusting to his treatment. Kompany, however, expressed confidence in the midfielder’s progress and eventual return to full involvement with the team.

For Bayern, Musiala remains an important part of the club’s sporting plans. The immediate priority, however, is ensuring that his treatment and recovery are managed responsibly, with medical specialists and the player himself determining the appropriate pace of his return.
