Jonathan leads an election mission to Sierra Leone on June 21, 2023, when he arrives in Freetown.

The West African Elders Forum 2023 Election Mission arrived in Sierra Leone on Wednesday to promote and support a peaceful democratic transition in advance of the country’s general election on June 24.

This was stated in a statement that was released on Wednesday by Mr. Wealth Ominabo, the Communications Officer of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation and the host of the WAEF.

It was mentioned that the mission is led by Goodluck Jonathan, a former Nigerian president. Other members of the mission include employees from the WAEF secretariat and Kadre Ouedraogo, a former Burkinabe prime minister who was once president of the Economic Community of West African States.

The statement said, “The mission urges citizens of Sierra Leone to approach the election with utmost patriotism by prioritizing the nation’s peace and stability and refrain from acts capable of undermining the nation’s democracy. In addition, it stated, “The team will have a series of consultative engagements with various political actors and key stakeholders in Sierra Leone, including the leadership of political parties, candidates, the Election Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), security agencies, the diplomatic community, civil society groups, and the media.”
