Two suspected kidnappers were involved in a motor accident on Monday morning at Angwan Mayo, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, shortly after collecting ransom from the family of an Abuja-based lawyer.
The suspects were reportedly heading to Plateau State to share the proceeds when their vehicle crashed. While one escaped, security operatives arrested another identified as Mohammed Tahir of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident, disclosing that ₦6.9 million cash, three rifles, and ammunition were recovered from the vehicle.
Nansel added that the suspect confessed to being part of a seven-man gang responsible for abducting a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja. He revealed that the gang had collected ransom before embarking on the ill-fated trip to Jos.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, directed that the suspect and recovered exhibits be transferred to the State CID in Lafia for further investigation. He reassured the public of the command’s resolve to flush out criminal elements, while commending residents for their vigilance and support.
