A 56-year-old man was successfully rescued over the weekend after falling into an 80-foot-deep well in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday. According to the agency, the Ejigbo Fire Station received a distress call and swiftly deployed a rescue team to the scene.
On arrival, the firefighters discovered the man trapped deep within a well located behind a bungalow containing eight rooms on a property measuring about 648 square metres.
Following what the agency described as “several coordinated efforts,” the man was pulled out alive and immediately handed over to his family. He is said to be in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident may have been due to negligence during a hazardous task being carried out in the well.
Reacting to the development, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, urged residents to contact the agency ahead of undertaking high-risk activities. She emphasized that early notification would enable proper safety planning and standby support, potentially preventing accidents.
The agency reiterated its commitment to emergency response and public safety, urging Lagosians to remain safety-conscious at all times.
