The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the brutal killing of Michael Nnaji, a 48-year-old businessman originally from Amuri, Enugu State, who was residing in the Amaka Ngbo community in Ebonyi.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night when two masked assailants arrived on motorcycles and invaded Nnaji’s property. According to witnesses, the gunmen entered the house and shot Nnaji twice before setting his body on fire. Residents nearby fled in fear, and by the time the scene was clear, Nnaji’s body and several household items, including furniture and appliances, were severely burnt.
The Police Public Relations Officer announced that an investigation is underway but no arrests have been made yet. The police assured the community that efforts would be made to capture those responsible.
Community members expressed shock and fear over the attack. A family member described Nnaji as a peaceful and friendly person, questioning why he had been targeted. A local leader also called on security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice and addressed rising concerns about violence in the area.
The victim’s remains were transported to the Ezza Ngbo General Hospital mortuary, while the incident continues to be a topic of grave concern among residents. Local authorities, including the Ohaukwu Council Chairman, have since visited the scene.
