The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 45-year-old man, Udeme Uko, who was shot inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung village, Ukanafun Local Government Area. The incident occurred around 12:10 am on Tuesday when gunmen allegedly stormed the church where Uko was sleeping with his wife and children
Uko was shot in the head, and his body was discovered in a pool of blood. The police were alerted after Uko’s wife raised an alarm over the gunshot. Upon arrival, officers found Uko’s lifeless body and recovered a locally made pistol as an exhibit.
The police command has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances behind the incident. The body has been sent to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has assured the public that all necessary resources will be deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice
This incident bears similarity to a previous case last year where a person was shot dead at a local bar in Uyo, the state capital, during a suspected gang-related attack
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has assured the public that they will keep them updated on the investigation’s progress. The command is working to determine whether the incident was a suicide or an attack by unknown assailants.
