Benin City — Online journalists in Edo State, under the umbrella of Edo Online Media Practitioners, have inaugurated new executives to lead the association for the next three years, with a mandate to reposition digital news management in the state.
The officers emerged from elections held during the association’s congress on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, in Benin City.
Those inaugurated are: Sam Dada Ayokhai (Chairman), Charity Ozigbo-Esere (Vice Chairman), Chris Akhabue (Secretary), Kingsley Abavo (Assistant Secretary), Stephen Ehichoya Odion (Treasurer), Monday Oise (Financial Secretary), and Lucky Isibor (Auditor).
A former Editor of the Nigerian Observer, Enahoro Eubaldus, who administered the oath of office, charged the new leadership to raise standards in digital journalism in line with national best practices.
In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman, Sam Dada Ayokhai, pledged that the association would operate in accordance with the NUJ constitution, meet members’ expectations, and collaborate with stakeholders to secure a stronger place for online media within the journalism profession.
Ayokhai also paid tribute to the pioneer chairman, Otunba Mike Aladenikan, now Public Relations Officer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, for laying a solid foundation for the association.
The Chairman subsequently inaugurated a standing Screening Committee, with Enahoro Eubaldus as Chairman and Isaac Olamikan and Joseph Kanjo as members, to vet new applicants into the body.
