NARD DON STAND BEHIND LAUTECH DOCTORS FOR STRIKE, DEM WARN SAY COUNTRY WIDE STRIKE FIT FOLLOW.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, wey dem dey call NARD, don stand behind resident doctors for LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, for Oyo State, as dem don enter strike because of problems wey concern their welfare, salary, working conditions and shortage of doctors.

NARD don also warn say if government no settle the matter quick, the problem fit grow reach other parts of Nigeria and even cause nationwide strike by resident doctors.

The LAUTECH doctors don already suspend strike for June 27, 2026, after hospital management and other authorities beg dem make dem give government time to solve their problems. The doctors later give Oyo State Government another eight weeks to meet their demands.

But according to NARD, the eight weeks finish on August 28, 2026, and many of the agreements still no get satisfactory implementation. Na because of this matter the doctors don return strike again.

DOCTORS DEY COMPLAIN ABOUT SALARY ARREARS AND STAFF SHORTAGE

One of the main problems wey the doctors dey raise na money wey government still owe dem.

NARD talk say some of the doctors still dey wait for minimum wage arrears, especially money wey government suppose pay after implementation of the new wage structure.

Dem also dey demand payment of their Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), arrears for professional and other allowances, upgrade arrears and proper implementation of work hour rules.

Apart from money matter, the doctors also dey complain say the hospital no get enough doctors.

NARD explain say some resident doctors wey comot from the hospital no get replacement. Some doctors wey finish their residency training too no get new doctors to replace dem.

The association say some important departments, including Anaesthesia, Chemical Pathology and Haematology, dey face serious shortage of doctors.

According to NARD, if government no address the shortage, the few doctors wey remain go continue to carry too much workload. This fit affect their health, specialist training and the quality of medical care wey patients dey receive.

CALL ROOM AND WORKING CONDITIONS TOO DEY WORRY DOCTORS

The doctors no only dey talk about salary.

NARD say the working conditions inside the hospital too need urgent attention. The association mention the poor condition of some call rooms and on-call facilities, where doctors dey rest and work during their duty periods.

The doctors also dey complain about too much workload and long working hours, wey dem say dey increase stress and burnout among resident doctors.

Dem therefore dey call for better working facilities and proper enforcement of rules wey concern doctors’ working hours.

NARD APPEAL TO GOVERNOR MAKINDE

NARD President, Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman, don appeal directly to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde make e step inside the matter and help bring government, hospital management and the striking doctors together.

The doctors’ association say the crisis fit still end through dialogue if government implement the agreements wey dem don already make and take the doctors’ demands seriously.

The development dey happen as healthcare workers for Nigeria continue to raise concerns about salary, shortage of manpower, training money and poor working conditions.

For patients wey dey depend on LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for specialist treatment, long strike fit make things harder, especially as the hospital already dey face shortage of doctors.

The matter therefore don put pressure on both government and the doctors to return to negotiation and find solution.

While NARD dey insist say the doctors’ demands concern their legitimate welfare and working conditions, the bigger concern for members of the public na how to make sure say patients no suffer because of the industrial action.

For now, NARD’s warning about a nationwide strike no mean say nationwide strike don start. E simply mean say the association dey warn government about possible wider industrial action if the LAUTECH matter no get solution.

The attention now dey on whether Oyo State Government and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital management go reach agreement with the resident doctors and bring the strike to an end.
