“NDLEA Busts Pastor, Wife in Lagos Drug Crackdown, Seizes 11kg of Cannabis Concealed in Vehicle”

Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has arrested a pastor and his wife in Lagos after operatives discovered 11 kilograms of suspected cannabis, commonly known as skunk, concealed inside their vehicle  a development authorities say underscores the evolving tactics of drug trafficking networks across the country.

According to NDLEA officials, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation carried out as part of an intensified nationwide campaign against illicit drug distribution and organized narcotics syndicates. The agency disclosed that the illegal substance was carefully hidden within the vehicle in an apparent attempt to evade routine security checks.

Crackdown Targets Expanding Drug Networks

The arrest forms part of a broader enforcement strategy by the NDLEA aimed at dismantling supply chains fueling drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria’s urban centers. Lagos, the country’s commercial hub, remains a critical focus due to its transport links, dense population, and strategic role in regional trade routes.

Agency sources stated that intelligence-led surveillance preceded the operation, enabling officers to intercept the suspects before the drugs could reach distribution channels. Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine whether the couple is linked to a wider trafficking network operating within or beyond Lagos State.

NDLEA leadership has repeatedly emphasized that traffickers increasingly employ unconventional couriers and concealment methods, including the use of private vehicles and trusted community figures, to transport narcotics undetected.

Rising Concern Over Drug Abuse

Security analysts note that Nigeria continues to grapple with rising drug abuse rates, particularly among young people, prompting renewed enforcement actions and public awareness campaigns. Authorities argue that sustained interdictions are necessary to disrupt supply while rehabilitation and prevention programs address demand.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting offenders regardless of social status or profession, stressing that anti-drug enforcement remains central to national security and public health efforts.

Legal Process Underway

NDLEA officials confirmed that the suspects will face prosecution following the conclusion of investigations and forensic analysis of the seized substance. Under Nigerian law, trafficking and possession of prohibited narcotics carry significant penalties, including lengthy prison terms upon conviction.

The agency has urged citizens to support anti-drug initiatives by reporting suspicious activities, maintaining that community cooperation is essential to combating organized crime.

Media Coverage and Verification

The incident has been reported by several reputable Nigerian news organizations, including Punch Newspapers, The Nation, Vanguard Nigeria, Premium Times, and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), all of which highlighted the operation as part of the NDLEA’s ongoing nationwide enforcement drive.
