The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has expressed support for the ongoing road infrastructure development initiatives of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The monarch made the remark when the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Chris Okaeben, led members of the ministry’s management team on a visit to the Oba’s Palace in Benin City.
Speaking during the visit, Oba Ewuare II said the governor’s road projects would stimulate economic growth and improve the well-being of the people.
The revered monarch also urged the governor to continue strengthening social cohesion and remain focused on delivering impactful governance for the people of Edo State despite criticisms from some quarters.
“We heard what happened. We thank Almighty God and our ancestors who heard our prayers and remembered you,” the Oba said while responding to renewed calls for the preservation of Edo heritage sites.
The traditional ruler noted that major infrastructure developments, including overhead bridges, were being witnessed in the state.
“We have not seen overhead bridges before in Edo, but it is during his tenure that we are seeing this kind of development. Some people deliberately criticise the governor,” the Oba added.
Earlier, Commissioner Chris Okaeben briefed the palace on the activities of the ministry and reaffirmed his long-standing relationship with the Benin Royal Family.
He also solicited prayers and support from the palace for the success of the state government’s programmes.
During the visit, Chief Agbonavbare Egharevba, the Toghobaghase of Benin, offered prayers for the state and its leadership.
