Ogun Disability Law: PWD Groups Beg Abiodun Make E Put 2017 Law for Action.

ABEOKUTA, Ogun State Groups wey dey fight for rights of pipo with disabilities for Ogun State don beg Governor Dapo Abiodun again say make e put the state Disability Law fully for action.

Di law wey former Governor Ibikunle Amosun sign for December 27, 2017, never fully start work according to di disability groups. Dem say persons with disabilities need make di law no just dey for paper, but make di government put proper systems wey go protect their rights and make dem fit get public services without problem.

Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ogun State chapter, together with Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN), make di call during press meeting for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iwe Iroyin House, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Di groups say dem want di Ogun State Government make e take serious steps to complete di process before Governor Abiodun finish im time for office.

Abdulwahab Matepo, National President of SCIAN, say persons with disabilities don spend years dey talk with government officials and other people concerned about di matter. Dem don hold meetings, consultations and different advocacy activities, but di groups say dem now want make all di discussions bring real action.

Di disability groups also dey complain say Ogun State never get one working institution wey fit properly handle matters wey concern persons with disabilities. Dem don previously call for establishment and proper activation of Ogun State Disability Commission, enough money for disability matters and stronger enforcement of rules wey concern access to public places.

Di latest call come after more meetings between disability groups and Ogun State authorities. For June 2026, representatives of JONAPWD and SCIAN meet with Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Olanrewaju Ogungbade, SAN, to discuss why di law never fully start work.

According to reports from di disability groups, di Attorney General promise say government go work on di matter and give update.

Di groups also recognise say people don talk about changing some parts of di existing law. But dem say discussion about changing di law no suppose stop government from putting di present law for action while dem dey consider improvements.

Dis matter don dey part of wider fight for disability rights for Ogun State. For December 2025, The Cable report say disability representatives ask government make e gazette or re enact di law, establish state disability commission and provide special money for disability matters.

Across Nigeria, disability groups don also dey push for stronger systems wey go help persons with disabilities get equal opportunity for education, healthcare, work, transport, public buildings and political participation.

For Ogun State, di disability community now dey focus on moving di law from paper go real life. Dem want make di rights wey di law promise become something wey persons with disabilities fit actually experience for their everyday life.

Di groups say dem still ready to work with government and other people concerned to make disability inclusion become reality for Ogun State. But dem dey insist say government need take concrete steps to make di 2017 law fully work.
