Ogun Police Foil ₦50 Million Kidnap Plot Against Chinese National, Arrest Two Suspects.
The Ogun State Police Command has thwarted an alleged kidnapping plot targeting a Chinese national and arrested two suspects linked to a planned ₦50 million ransom operation, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in the state’s ongoing fight against organized crime.
According to police authorities, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations that uncovered plans to abduct the foreign national for financial gain. Investigators revealed that the criminal scheme was designed to demand a ransom of ₦50 million from the victim’s associates and family members after the planned abduction.
The police said swift intervention by security operatives prevented the execution of the plot, leading to the arrest of the suspects before the kidnapping could take place. Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered details of the conspiracy, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been connected to the operation.
The development highlights growing security concerns surrounding foreign nationals and business operators in parts of Nigeria, where incidents of kidnapping for ransom have remained a significant challenge despite intensified security measures. Law enforcement agencies have continued to strengthen intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration to combat criminal networks involved in abductions and extortion.
Authorities in Ogun State reaffirmed their commitment to protecting residents, investors, and expatriates working within the state, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing criminal activities.
The police further assured that the suspects would face prosecution in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
