Okada driver sentenced to 21 years in prison for armed robbery

The Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old motorcyclist (Okada), Idris Agunbiade, to 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery.

Judge Sherifat Sonaike found Agunbiade guilty of robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The judge said the sentences should run concurrently starting Thursday.

The convict, who had been in pre-sentence custody, was arraigned on November 26, 2019 on two charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, which were imposed on him by the Lagos State Government. Ta.

Prosecutor Moses Kuku told the court that the convicts committed the crime on October 15, 2019 and the others are still at large.

He said the incident occurred at around 4pm in Okoafo area of ​​Lagos State.

Kuku said Agunbiade attacked Nmachi Aloysius with a weapon and took N220,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offense committed was in violation of Sections 299 and 297(2)(a) of the Lagos State Penal Code 2015. Crime, Denial However, he made this accusation and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

During the trial, the prosecution called witnesses to testify against Agunbiade, and the convict testified exclusively for the defense.

While delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Sonaike concluded that the prosecution was competent to prove the elements of the crime against the case and the convicts.

In a plea for a more lenient sentence for his client, the convicted man’s lawyer told the court that the convicted man was a first-time offender with no previous convictions.

The prosecutor also confirmed that the convicted man had no previous criminal record.

“As a result, Justice Sonaike said: Agunbioade is sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment on both charges without the option of a fine.”
