Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved a large-scale recruitment of youths into the State Civil Service as part of his administration’s push to reduce unemployment and accelerate development.
The Governor made the announcement on Monday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, ahead of the Edo Central Senatorial by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.
“If I do not develop my home, no one else will develop it,” Okpebholo declared, adding that the job creation initiative will be backed by infrastructure upgrades, including an ultra-modern market in Irrua, dualization of the Ekpoma–Ubiaja road, and the extension of a 33kV power line to stabilize electricity supply in Edo Central.
He also cited his role, as a Senator, in securing the ongoing reconstruction of the Benin–Auchi–Okene road with President Bola Tinubu’s support, urging the crowd to rally behind Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In addition, Okpebholo directed the Commissioner for Education to commence renovation of Eguare-Ugbegun Primary School in Ward 10, and instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor, to fast-track the civil service recruitment process.
“We are going to massively employ our young people. Creating employment for our youths is the best thing we can do for them,” he assured.
The rally drew prominent APC figures, including General Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd.), APC State Deputy Chairman Sylvester Aigboboh, and senatorial candidate Hon. Joseph Ikpea, in a show of strength ahead of the by-election.
