Soldiers attached to the Nkwagu Military Cantonment, on Monday, killed an armed robber on the Akpoha/Abaomege axis of the Afikpo/Abakaliki highway in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
They also arrested three people said to have links with hoodlums allegedly terrorising motorists in the area.
the suspects were part of a gang that has been reportedly causing mayhem and terrorising the axis.
The Afikpo/Abakaliki highway in Ebonyi is the easiest route for travellers coming to Abakaliki (the Ebonyi State capital) from Imo and Abia States.
It was gathered that luck ran out of the suspects Monday morning when the soldiers swooped on them, killing one and arresting three others.
A trending video showed travellers and natives praising the gallantry of the soldiers as they were taking arrested suspects away while another was seen lying fatally wounded.
The state Police spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the report on the incident before his office was not conclusive, adding he was waiting for details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in the Abaomege Division.
