The Edo State branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has teamed up with the Oredo Local Government Council to kick‑off a strong advocacy campaign under the theme “Say No to Drug Abuse”, as part of the 2025 FIDA Law Week.
Leading the awareness efforts, members of FIDA, headed by Princess Francisca Elema, marched through the Ring Road axis of Benin City. Armed with placards and engaging the public, they raised awareness of the dangers and far‑reaching consequences of substance abuse. The campaign drew positive reactions from commuters and traders alike.
The delegation later visited the Oredo Council Secretariat to meet with the local government’s leadership about the increasing threat of drug misuse, especially among women, children and young people.
Princess Elema emphasised that the campaign is designed to safeguard society and create greater awareness around the social, economic and health impacts of drug addiction.
In response, the Council Chairman of Oredo, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, thanked FIDA for choosing Oredo as a rallying point. He praised their bold initiative, describing FIDA as one of the earliest groups to lead public sensitization on drug‑abuse issues.
He assured the delegation that his administration will continue to support and collaborate with FIDA to build a safer, healthier and more informed community.
This partnership marks a pivotal step in reinforcing grassroots efforts against drug abuse within Oredo Local Government Area.
