A manhunt has been launched by the Ogun State Police Command to apprehend the killers of Prophet Yomi Adetula, who was shot dead during a church service in Idiroko, Ogun State The incident occurred on Sunday morning at the Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the pastor was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood, with his white Celestial church garment stained with crimson. Preliminary inspection revealed that the assailants had hacked the victim’s head with an axe after shooting him.
Witnesses reported that the suspect entered the church brandishing long double-barrelled shotguns, causing confusion and panic among the worshippers.
The attackers aimed at the pastor and fired, killing him instantly. They then fled the scene, making their way towards the border area.
The police have taken the body to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro and have launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

It’s worth noting that the victim was a senior officer in the Social Orientation and Safety Corps in Ogun State and was a key witness in an ongoing legal case involving a suspect in the state. A similar incident occurred in 2025, where gunmen attacked a church in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing the pastor and abducting seven worshippers.
