The charges were filed based on a petition submitted by Fuji music icon Okunola Saheed, fondly called Osupa, who alleged that Portable made defamatory remarks about him during a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025. In the video, Portable was quoted saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with its shell—he doesn’t get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform make I no see money.”
Osupa described these statements as damaging, inciting, and an attack on his reputation, claiming they caused public tension and unrest. The prosecution urged the court to remand Portable in a correctional facility pending the conclusion of the police investigation. However, Portable’s counsel argued that his client had already been granted administrative bail and would not evade trial.
The court adjourned further trial of the case till April 30, 2025. Portable’s lawyer, Barrister Adebayo Isaac, assured the court of his client’s readiness to stand trial, emphasizing that Portable is a public figure with a known and traceable address
