Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has assured youths that their rights are protected under the child rights law and when they feel harassed, they should not resist to report irrespective of who is involve.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Gender Issues, Hon. Andrew Adaze Emwanta Esq. JP during the Teen on Fire Leadership Initiative 2022, held in Benin City, disclosed that the youths are at the top of the Making Edo Great Again MEGA.
“If you have any case of sexual based violence, it could be from your parents, your teachers or any one, you have the duty to report. It is only when you report and bring to our attention that we can take action.
“Edo State will be one of the few states where gender-based violence will not be allowed. The Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues will work with you to ensure that the rights of every child are protected,” the governor added.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management, sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun said the future generation is important to the Godwin Obaseki led administration, adding that “as a youth what future do you envisage for yourself”
According to her, “nobody has an excuse because greatness is a personal responsibility. The responsibility to make the right decisions to birth the future. Every stakeholder has a role to contribute our quota to birth the Edo of our dream.”
The Teen on fire leadership Conference Initiative 2022 with the theme, “My Nation, My Responsibility,” also featured a panel of discussants and questions and answer session by the students from various schools.
The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Barr. Solomon Imohionsen, the state Director, National Orientation Agency, Mr. Austin Odile and Rev. Ben Akhigbe were amongst guests that graced the conference.
