November 3, 2025 — A tragic attack has shaken the Gaambe-Tiev community in Benue State, Nigeria, after Mr. Atindiga Tsebee, a former councilor and local leader, was killed by suspected armed herdsmen. The ambush occurred over the weekend along the Ayilamo–Anyiin road near Tsukwa Village, as Tsebee returned from a security meeting aimed at addressing escalating violence in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen targeted the vehicle, belonging to community leader Zaki Terngu Iorhuna, opening fire and killing Tsebee instantly. The brutal act has plunged the community into mourning, sparking fears of retaliatory attacks. Residents are fleeing their homes, while leaders demand increased military deployment to curb further bloodshed.
“This is a wake-up call,” said a local source. “We need protection, not just words.” The attack underscores Benue’s ongoing struggle with herder-farmer conflicts, which have claimed dozens of lives this year alone. Governor Hyacinth Alia has previously condemned such violence as “barbaric,” backing a “quit notice” to armed herdsmen.
