Russian strikes have killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more in Ukraine, throwing doubt over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s attempts to revive the peace process with talks in Ankara.
The overnight attacks targeted two multi-storey apartment blocks in Ternopil, western Ukraine, with massive fires and debris reported. Emergency services are evacuating people from blocked apartments, and authorities warn the toll could rise further.
Russia fired over 476 drones and 48 missiles, with Ukraine’s air force destroying 442 drones and 41 missiles. The strikes have also wounded at least 46 people in Kharkiv and targeted other western Ukrainian areas.
Zelensky has called on Western backers to increase pressure on Russia to end the war, saying “every brazen attack against ordinary life shows that the pressure on Russia is insufficient.” He met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara to discuss achieving a just peace
The Kremlin remains open to negotiations but has no Russian officials attending the talks. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s attendance is uncertain, amid reports of a possible secret US-Russia peace plan
