After nearly two weeks of walking in a continuous circle, a video of a flock of sheep in China’s inner Mongolia region went viral.
The flock in pen 13 has been filmed walking in a clockwise pattern for nearly two weeks now.
Some have taken the disturbing video of the sheep circle to be a portent of the end of the world.
Ten Days of Filming a Sheep Herd Walking in a Circle
The farmer claims the strange behavior started with a few animals before spreading to the rest of the flock.
Sheep in China have been walking in circles for 12 days straight, raising questions about their mental health.
The sheep in pen number 13 are the only ones exhibiting strange behavior on Ms. Miao’s farm, which has 34 pens.
Others suspect something more sinister is at work here, while some consider this to be typical sheep behavior.
Listeria can infect both humans and animals, so some Twitter users have speculated that the sheep may be infected with it.
Coordination issues, excessive salivation, circling, and other behavioral changes may indicate the presence of this disease.
However, the People’s Daily, China’s official newspaper, claims the sheep are fine.
There have been previous reports of sheep acting strangely and forming circles, including one from East Sussex last year that included a photograph of a flock standing in a circle in a field.
Christopher Hogg, a resident of the East Sussex village of Rottingdean, was out on his bike when he witnessed animals acting “in the X-files.”
During his daily bike commute, the 47-year-old said, “I came over the hill and saw this magnificent circle.”
Sheep are notoriously loud. Every day I walk by them, but today they were unusually quiet and still.
Hogg described the scene as “eerie,” saying that the animals appeared to be in a trance.
No one knows what’s causing the peculiar behavior of the sheep in both Mongolia and East Sussex.
