President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State to sympathize with the government and assure parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the government will ensure their quick release.
Tinubu expressed sadness over the abduction, despite intelligence warnings of a possible strike by bandits, and commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts to avert the kidnapping. He urged communities to share information and intelligence to help security forces make the communities safe.
The abduction occurred on November 17, 2025, when armed assailants invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, killing the Vice Principal and abducting 25 female students.
Lt General Waidi Shaibu has ordered troops to intensify day and night operations to rescue the abducted students.
The Senate has asked President Tinubu to recruit 100,000 more officers and men into the military to combat insecurity.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and US lawmaker Riley Moore have condemned the abduction, calling for stronger protection of children.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the urgent rescue of the abducted students and appealed to the government to halt attacks on schools
