The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained a man named Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Cole was apprehended in the Lugbe area of Abuja after making the threat on his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss,” in response to a post by Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024.

The EFCC released a statement on its official account, stating that its operatives arrested Kayode Cole on March 18, 2024. The agency revealed that the death threat was made through his Instagram page while commenting on a story posted by Instablog9ja. The post by Instablog9ja highlighted the EFCC’s findings on money laundering activities involving religious groups in Nigeria.

In his comment, Cole stated that the EFCC Chairman would be dead in six months. During interrogation, Cole claimed that he was simply seeking attention, or “chasing clout.” The EFCC will hand him over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
