The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that three officers will face prosecution in connection with the alleged killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, an ND11 student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin. The police announced that these officers have been dismissed from service after being found guilty in an internal investigation.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, it was noted that the three officers—Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip—were found guilty of several offenses, including leaving their assigned duties, corrupt practices, and the unlawful exercise of authority. They were officially dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force on October 4, 2024, and will be brought to court shortly.
The police emphasized their commitment to justice and accountability, stating that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is determined to uphold ethical standards within the force, particularly in cases involving loss of life.
The command extended its condolences to Ishola’s family and friends, expressing solidarity during this difficult time. Ishola, a 21-year-old student studying Electrical Electronics Engineering, was reportedly killed during a stop-and-search operation in Ilorin on September 4, 2024. His death sparked protests from students demanding justice.
The police urged the public to be patient and to trust the legal process as they work to maintain order in Kwara State.
