“Tinubu Revives Key South-East Road Infrastructure Projects as Federal Government Targets Regional Connectivity Umahi”

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has disclosed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is actively reviving several abandoned and stalled road infrastructure projects across the South East, describing the effort as part of a broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity, economic growth, and national integration.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing federal road projects, Umahi said the Federal Government has prioritized the completion of critical transport corridors that had suffered years of neglect, including sections of the Trans Saharan Superhighway and other strategic road networks linking the South East to neighbouring regions.

According to the minister, the renewed infrastructure drive reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing longstanding developmental challenges in the South East while ensuring equitable distribution of federal projects across the country.

Umahi noted that improved road infrastructure remains essential for boosting trade, reducing transportation costs, enhancing security, and facilitating the movement of goods and services within Nigeria and across regional borders. He emphasized that the government is determined to complete projects capable of unlocking economic opportunities for communities and businesses in the region.

The minister further highlighted ongoing interventions on major federal highways and bridges, stating that contractors have been mobilized to accelerate construction timelines. He added that adequate funding mechanisms are being put in place to ensure continuity and prevent further abandonment of critical infrastructure projects.

Infrastructure analysts have long argued that the South East requires significant investment in road networks due to its strategic role in commerce, manufacturing, and regional trade. Many of the projects currently receiving attention had experienced delays resulting from funding constraints, contractual disputes, and changing government priorities over the years.

The renewed focus on road development comes amid broader efforts by the Federal Government to modernize transportation infrastructure nationwide. Stakeholders believe the successful completion of these projects could strengthen economic integration between Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, improve access to markets, and support long-term national development objectives.

Observers also note that enhanced road connectivity in the South East could stimulate private sector investment, create employment opportunities, and improve access to essential services for millions of residents.

As construction activities continue across multiple project sites, the Federal Government maintains that infrastructure development remains central to its economic agenda and efforts to drive inclusive growth across all regions of the country.
