The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has initiated the trial of a police officer accused of harassing a woman in the Galadimawa area of Abuja. The incident, which took place on the night of October 6, 2024, was captured on video, where the woman claimed that the officer slapped her and sprayed pepper spray into her eyes during a stop-and-search operation.
In the video, the woman stated, “I didn’t do anything wrong. They asked me to come over, and I told them they could check my bag. There was no need for me to get out. Then they began harassing me, sprayed pepper spray into my eyes three times, and slapped me.”
Following the incident, the police spokesperson confirmed that the woman had identified the officer involved, and disciplinary proceedings, including a trial, were underway. The police also encouraged residents to report any misconduct through their complaint channels.
