KANU — In a decisive show of force, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) foiled a brazen bandit incursion into several villages in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State early Friday morning, after a fierce, hours‑long firefight that began late Thursday night.
The assault — described as a revenge mission by the attackers — was reportedly sparked by the loss of several bandit fighters in a previous encounter with military forces last week. According to Major Zubair Babatunde Nigerian Army spokesperson in Kano, the militants stormed the villages of Yankwada, Babanduhu, and surrounding hamlets around 1:00 a.m., riding motorcycles and firing indiscriminately as they advanced.
The JTF responded immediately, launching a counter‑operation that drove the assailants back after a tense and prolonged gun battle. “The bandits were effectively engaged and dislodged by the military,” Babatunde confirmed.
