US President Donald Trump has urged Israel to be “careful” in its attacks, following a recent airstrike in Qatar’s capital, Doha, that targeted Hamas leaders. The strike, which killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer, has sparked widespread condemnation and worsened tensions between Washington’s two powerful Middle Eastern allies, Israel and Qatar.
The airstrike was part of Israel’s efforts to eliminate Hamas, but it has been met with criticism from the international community. Qatar, which hosts the largest US military base in the region, has been a key player in negotiations between Israel and Hamas, aimed at ending the war in Gaza
Trump’s comments come after a “heated call” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he initially rebuked Israel over the strike. “Qatar has been a very great ally. Israel and everyone else, we have to be careful. When we attack people we have to be careful,” Trump told reporters. He emphasized the need for balance in efforts against Hamas
The attack has prompted Arab and Muslim leaders to gather in Doha, where Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called for the world to “stop using double standards” and hold Israel accountable. Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has also expressed solidarity with Qatar
The airstrike has strained relations between Qatar and Israel, with Qatar denouncing the attack as “state terrorism”.
The US has called on Israel to be cautious, with Trump emphasizing the importance of careful action.
