In a shocking incident that has raised concerns about public safety and criminal activities in Oyo State, the police have announced the arrest of two individuals who were found in possession of a fresh human skull in the Amuloko area of Ibadan, the state capital. The discovery has sent ripples of fear and disbelief through the community.
The Oyo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed the details of the arrests in a WhatsApp message shared with local media representatives on Tuesday. The situation escalated when a viral video surfaced, showing residents confronting a man identified only as Musa, who was reportedly carrying a suspicious sack.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the man’s erratic behavior caught the attention of local residents, leading them to question him about the contents of the sack he was carrying. Upon inspection, they were horrified to find a human skull inside. This alarming discovery prompted immediate action from the community, who subsequently handed Musa over to the police.
OyoAffairs, an online news platform, further reported on the incident, stating, “A man caught with a fresh human head earlier today in the Amuloko area of Ibadan. He has been handed over to the police.”
Upon questioning, the suspect alleged that he was part of a syndicate engaged in the illicit trade of human body parts within the state. This revelation has raised serious concerns about the extent of such criminal networks operating in Oyo and the potential threat they pose to society.
In light of these developments, Osifeso confirmed that a comprehensive investigation had been launched to uncover the full scope of the crime. He stated, “The case is under investigation. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. More updates would be communicated accordingly.”
This incident is reminiscent of previous occurrences in the state, including a recent event where the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, apprehended two individuals for allegedly exhuming the head of a freshly buried corpse in the Saki area of Oyo State. Such cases highlight a disturbing trend of grave violations and criminal activities involving human remains, which have increasingly alarmed the public.
As the investigation continues, the Oyo State Police Command is under pressure to address the growing fears within the community regarding safety and the potential rise of similar incidents. The authorities are encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat this unsettling wave of crime.
