Why Osimhen may remain at Napoli

The future of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen at Napoli hangs in the balance as reports suggest that he may end up staying at the Italian club for another season. Osimhen has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer, with several clubs interested in acquiring his services. However, his €130m release clause has deterred potential suitors from the English Premier League.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had reignited their interest in Osimhen and negotiations were expected to be decisive this week. Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, had traveled to Paris to discuss a possible move to PSG. The French club was reportedly willing to include one of their players in a player-plus-cash swap deal. However, recent reports from Italy indicate that Osimhen is considering discussing his future with Napoli coach Antonio Conte due to setbacks in the negotiations with PSG.

Sources in France suggest that PSG’s priorities have shifted, and they are now more concerned with filling the gap left by Kylian Mbappe. L’Equipe reports that PSG will need to sell either Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo-Muani before they can proceed with the signing of Osimhen. However, neither forward is willing to leave the club, leading to a stall in the talks for Osimhen’s transfer.

It is believed that Osimhen has privately discussed the possibility of staying at Napoli for another season. However, he still needs to have a conversation with Antonio Conte regarding his plans. Conte had previously stated that Osimhen is not in his plans for the upcoming season, although he praised the player’s attitude during pre-season training before omitting him from friendly matches.

Napoli is still hoping to sell Osimhen this summer as the funds from his transfer are crucial for the club’s plans to sign Romelu Lukaku and find a replacement for Osimhen himself.
