Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who passed away Friday morning in Abuja at the age of 71, following a prolonged illness.
In a heartfelt condolence message issued by his media office, Governor Lawal described the monarch’s death as a personal loss, praising the late Emir as a revered traditional ruler, source of wisdom, and a pillar of guidance for the state.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” Governor Lawal said.
He extended his condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate, the monarch’s family, and the entire people of the state.
“His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria as a whole. He was a supportive royal father and a leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of our state.”
Emir Ibrahim Bello ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, becoming the 15th Emir of Gusau. Over his 10-year reign, he earned respect for his dedication, spiritual depth, and consistent service to peace and unity in the region.
Before his ascension, the late monarch was a seasoned civil servant, having risen to the position of Permanent Secretary in both old Sokoto State and later Zamfara State.
“I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guided me and other leaders in the state,” Governor Lawal said.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council in the coming hours.
