The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has been criticized by the United Christian Youth Forum of Nigeria (UCYFN), which alleges that the former governor of Anambra State is not who he claims to be.
At a news conference on Friday in Abuja, the organization, headed by Bro. Peterson A. Daniels as President accused Obi of exploiting religion to deceive his supporters and other naive Nigerians.
“Like the rest of Nigeria, you’ve probably been bombarded with photos and videos of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, campaigning in Edo state ahead of the 2023 election. Mr Obi attended a Catholic Mass and a night vigil during his trip, and photos of him receiving prayers at the altar have since gone viral.
By striking arrangements with the pastors of various churches around the country before the campaign began, Mr Obi has become a familiar face at Christian gatherings all across the country. The purpose of these public appearances in Pentecostal and Protestant churches was to portray the LP candidate in a positive light by showing that he is religious and morally upstanding.
As unfortunate as it is, we feel obligated to make this intervention today to warn Nigerians not to be duped into electing the devil’s agent. To hide his true identity, Daniels said, Mr Obi has been putting on a show of religious zeal and charisma since becoming the LP candidate. “He is an irredeemable Catholic fanatic who perverted the faith in a manner that should have earned him ex-communication for making Catholicism appear like a cult,” Daniels said.
They said that Obi, the LP presidential candidate, was unqualified to be Nigeria’s next President in 2023 because he hated anyone who wasn’t Catholic.
For these reasons, the United Christian Youth Forum of Nigeria issues the following warning to the people of Nigeria: “In conclusion, the United Christian Youth Forum of Nigeria hereby warn Nigerians to beware of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, who has assured his inner circuit that he shall run a Catholic government if mistakenly elected as President.
Pentecostals, Protestants, Muslims, Animists, Agnostics, and Atheists will be denied the benefits of democracy under his administration. In spite of this, it is against Christian doctrine to mistreat someone just because of who they are different from us. In contrast to Mr Obi’s sectarian extremism, “the mission that Christ gave us is to witness to the world,” he said.
