2027 Presidency: Ganduje Questions Obi, Kwankwaso’s Governance Records as Political Alliances Intensify.

Former Kano State Governor and ex National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has questioned the governance records and political legacies of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as speculation over Nigeria’s 2027 presidential contest intensifies.

Ganduje, speaking with journalists on Tuesday, dismissed the prospects of a proposed Obi Kwankwaso political alliance, particularly in Kano State, describing the ticket as unlikely to secure electoral success in the state.

The former APC chairman challenged Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, asking what lasting legacy he left behind and what subsequent governance experience, in his view, demonstrated his capacity to effectively lead Nigeria.

Ganduje also criticized Kwankwaso’s political record, pointing to the former Kano governor’s inability to secure two consecutive terms in office. He contrasted this with the records of former Kano governors Ibrahim Shekarau and himself, both of whom served two successive terms.

According to Ganduje, Kwankwaso’s political record does not provide sufficient evidence, in his assessment, to convince Kano voters or Nigerians that he would be an effective vice president.

The comments come amid renewed political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures and political groups exploring possible alliances to challenge the ruling establishment. Obi and Kwankwaso remain prominent figures in Nigeria’s opposition politics, and any potential alliance involving both politicians could carry significant implications for the country’s regional and electoral dynamics.

However, Ganduje’s assessment represents a political position rather than an independent electoral forecast. The outcome of the 2027 election will ultimately depend on factors including party structures, candidate selection, coalition building, campaign performance, voter sentiment and the conduct of the electoral process.

The remarks have added to the growing political debate over whether past governance performance, political influence and regional support will determine the strength of emerging presidential alliances ahead of the next national election.
