Gov Okpebholo charges Edo workers on efficient service delivery

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has charged Edo State workers to be efficient in service delivery, urging them to continue to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the State.

Gov Okpebholo gave the charge in a keynote delivered at the 2024 Staff of the Year Awards for civil servants held at the New Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City.

The award saw over 11 staff from the Directorate of Government House and Protocol honoured for discharging their daily responsibilities effectively.

The governor who was represented by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Edo State Urban water Corporation, Hon. Uyi Ekhosuehi said his administration recognizes the efforts, commitment, determination and dedication of workers to his administration, noting that their contributions have made his government achieve set goals.

He acknowledged the efforts of the workers in ensuring effective collaboration between his administration and the entire state workforce which has lead to a harmonious, peaceful and conducive workers friendly environment in the State.

Gov Okpebholo noted that all workers in Edo State deserve to be awarded as they are all winners but a few distinguished themselves in their various departments and were selected to receive the 2024 staff awards.

He encouraged those who were not recognized and called up to receive any award in the 2024 edition to put in their best as 2025 is already counting and the efforts put in are being measured by the appropriate authority and it may be their turn to be recognized this time around.

“Your role as civil servants who work in Government House is well appreciated and your dedication to duty has played a significant role in developing Edo State.

“I charge you to furthermore be committed and dedicated in delivering your duties towards making the State a better place for citizens and delivering on my administration’s mandate to give Edo people an improved and better lives.

“To be recognized means more work is expected from you. Congratulations to all those who have been recognized, you need to do more. I charge all workers to be more dedicated to their duties and responsibilities. Be very serious with your job. I love your dedication to duty and together we shall build a greater Edo State”, he declared.

The Permanent Secretary Government House and Protocol, Edith Sede commended the governor for his workers-friendly policies and creating the enabling environment for workers to thrive.

Sede who commended the workers on their well deserved awards said the unit heads who had played vital roles in ensuring the awards continued yearly were also rewarded for their efforts.

“We have dedicated staff in the directorate who work 24/7 to ensure the governor’s work is made easy. This event has become necessary to honour these deserving staff of the directorate. If you didn’t win today, you will win tomorrow and all you need to do is to work harder.

“We have 11 departmental winners across the various departments”, she said.

The Public Relations Officer, Government House, Mr Jimoh Akande was recognized for his distinctive coordinating role in ensuring the media unit in the directorate continues to inform the public of the practical governance and developmental achievements of Mr Governor.

Prince Richard Eweka received award as the best journalist in the Press Unit of Government House following his determination, commitment and zeal in ensuring the governor’s daily activities are turned into stories to inform Edo people, Nigerians and the world at large since 12th November 2024.

The pay master from the Accounts Section, Mr Jeremiah Ehiobo Igberase emerged as the overall best staff of the directorate in 2024 while 2nd runner up was Idemudia Sylvester Akhanugboba and 1st runner up of the award was Orobor Osasumwen.

Long term service award was given to Mr James Imagbenikaro Iyoha from the catering department. He has been in the directorate for over 21 years.

Other awardees included Government House Clinic nurse, Okpiavbe Ruth Ivia; Mr Lucky Asemota from Department of Shared Services; Salami Omokivie Mary from Department of Protocol; Orumwense Lilian from Governor’s Secretariat; Abel Omigie from office of the Chief of Staff; Ibena Bridget from Office of the First Lady; Pogoson Anthonia Emike from Catering Section; Omorodion Peters from Works section (building) and Omoruyi Erinmwinhe from transport pool (Driver’s section).
