A 55-year-old man named Ifeanyi Akachukwu was brought before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of assaulting his wife, Chioma Akachukwu.
The incident allegedly occurred during a disagreement between the couple in . The prosecution claimed that Ifeanyi dragged Chioma to their room, where he struck her in the face, causing her to lose a tooth. He then proceeded to beat her, resulting in serious bodily injuries. Additionally, he twisted her hands behind her back and attempted to strangle her. Ifeanyi was charged with two counts of assault,
which violate Sections 173 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State . The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.
During the hearing, Prosecutor Thomas Nurudeen informed the court that the alleged offenses occurred in October . Magistrate Nwaka set the bail condition at N100,000 with four sureties, all of whom must be gainfully employed and have verifiable addresses. The case was adjourned until June 10, 2024, for mention.
