Benin City – Apostle Sule Azekhumen of the Edo Government House Chapel has said that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, stressing the need for sustained efforts to protect lives and property across Edo State.

Azekhumen made the statement on Monday while delivering a sermon during the 2026 Mid-Year Thanksgiving and Praise Service held at the Edo Government House Chapel in Benin City.

According to him, the chapel is encouraged by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s unwavering determination and relentless efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry, cultism, and other forms of criminality in the state.

He noted that the administration has demonstrated courage and commitment in strengthening security and safeguarding residents across Edo State.

“As people of faith, we understand that while our leaders work diligently, ultimate success comes from God. Except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

“It was this conviction that inspired the Government House Chapel to embark on a 14-day prayer and fasting programme from June 1 to June 14, culminating on Sunday, to seek God’s guidance, protection, wisdom, peace, and prosperity for Edo State.

“We believe that God, who answers prayers, will continue to strengthen our leaders and establish the work of their hands,” he said.

The cleric also appealed to churches and other religious bodies across the state to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Monday Okpebholo, Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, and members of the State Executive Council.

Speaking on the significance of thanksgiving, Azekhumen cited Psalm 100:4 and said there were many reasons to appreciate God for preserving lives, sustaining families, and protecting communities.

He commended the governor for the recruitment of 5,000 teachers, describing the initiative as a bold investment in the future of Edo children and a major boost to the state’s education sector.

In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo, represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security and protecting lives and property across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The governor highlighted investments made by his administration in key sectors and said the government was doing everything humanly possible to improve the living conditions of Edo people.

He added that the administration would continue to give thanks to God, noting that there is great reward in showing appreciation to God at all times.
