For several years running, NNPC has been Nigeria’s exclusive source of gasoline imports. Other marketers stopped importing gasoline because they couldn’t easily acquire foreign currency.
“First off, because of the problem with the flooded roads, most gas stations ran out of stock. When most of our vehicles were stopped at various depots, we realized there wasn’t enough product availability, said Maigandi.
He continued, “This is because there isn’t a sufficient supply of goods from the NNPC. These are the difficulties we have encountered. Your truck will travel there and wait in line for over a week.
“And you know that a truck will generate a backup if it waits in line for a week without loading,
availability is a major problem. Once more, because independent marketers depend on proprietors of private depots to obtain items, when we visit them to make purchases, they charge us about N200 per litre.
“In Lagos and Warri depots, they currently offer fuel for between N190 and N200 per liter. Now you know what gas stations will cost. If this situation persists, people should be prepared to pay more than N200 per litre.
In response to the question of whether the NNPC was offering an explanation, Maigandi said that after becoming a limited liability corporation in July, the national oil company now referred to itself as a player in the industry.
When we express some of our issues with them since they become a limited liability company, they will respond by saying they are merely marketers.
