Seun Kuti, an artist nominated for a Grammy who specializes in afrobeat, has made his first public statement after being released from police arrest.
According to a report by an Obaland correspondent, the singer was released on bail on Tuesday after being held at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Yaba, Lagos, on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for assaulting a police officer. The assault charge stemmed from an incident in which the singer allegedly assaulted the officer.
Kuti took to his Instagram account shortly after he was freed to express his gratitude to all of the people who had supported him throughout his struggle.
He penned, “I want to say an extremely heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who has shown me all of this love.” Everyone that was there, including my other buddies! I would want to express my gratitude to my lovely wife, @chefyeidekuti.
